Medications
Along with our goal
to prevent unwanted pets by offering low cost sterilization, we also offer low
cost pet medications to promote good health in your pet. No appointment is needed
to purchase medications. Cash or check are accepted forms of payment.
Heartworm preventative can be
given to puppies as young as 6 weeks. However, as long as you begin
heartworm preventative before the dog is 6 months old, a
heartworm test is not required. Heartworms ARE NOT the same as intestinal worms.
Heartworms actually take up residence in your dog's heart. A heartworm has
a life span of 5-7 years. Depending on the severity, a dog's heart may be
home to just a few or hundreds of these worms. If not treated, this
disease will kill your dog. Treatment costs several hundred dollars and is
potentially toxic to your dog. Heartworm preventative purchased at our
clinic is as low as $2 a month (depending on dog weight).
Statistically, in our clinic,
of four dogs tested for heartworms, one will test positive. This disease
is cause by mosquitoes and is prevalent in our area. We have seen just as
many positive results from dogs that basically stay in the house and just go
outside to potty as those dogs who are strictly outside pets. No dog is
safe.
