Pet Medication & Prevention Info

Along with our goal to prevent unwanted pets through low cost sterilization, we also offer low cost pet medications such as heartworm prevention, dewormer and flea and tick control to promote good health in your pet. On Vaccination Clinic days, pet medications and prevention can be purchased at any time, from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. No appointment is needed. However, we recommend you come before 5 p.m. as people will be picking up their pets around 5:15 which were dropped off earlier that morning for surgery.

Debit, credit or cash are accepted forms of payment. We do not take checks.

Dewormer, heartworm prevention, Comfortis, Advantage Multi, Interceptor and Revolution are prescription medications. If we have not seen your pet before, we cannot dispense these medications. You will need to bring your pet with you to obtain them. Heartworm medication can be obtained if you bring your dog and proof that your dog has been taking his/her prevention monthly. Otherwise, we can do a $12 heartworm test. WE DO NOT AUTHORIZE ONLINE PRESCRIPTIONS (i.e., PetMeds).

Heartworm Info

Heartworm preventative can be given to puppies as young as 6 weeks. However, as long as you begin heartworm preventative before the dog is 6 months old, a heartworm test is not required.

Heartworms ARE NOT the same as intestinal worms. Heartworms actually take up residence in your dog's heart. A heartworm has a life span of 5-7 years. Depending on the severity, a dog's heart may be home to just a few or hundreds of these worms. If not treated, this disease will lead to heart failure and eventually kill your dog. Treatment costs several hundred dollars and is potentially toxic to your dog. Heartworm preventative purchased at our clinic is as low as $4 a month (depending on dog weight).

Statistically, in our clinic, of four dogs tested for heartworms, one will test positive. This disease is cause by mosquitoes and is prevalent in our area. We have seen just as many positive results from dogs that basically stay in the house and just go outside to potty as those dogs who are strictly outside pets. No dog is safe.
