IMPORTANT-PLEASE READ ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:

  • As with all procedures that require anesthesia, there is a risk of adverse reaction and even death. Upon arrival for a surgery appointment you will be required to sign a release form advising you of these risks. Please read this form carefully.
  • Cause for Paws will NOT perform surgery on dogs over the age of 7 years. These animals require more extensive monitoring and equipment. Please contact a full service veterinarian.
  • Cause for Paws will NOT perform surgery on breeds with a "squashed nose", such as shih-tzus, boston terriers, pugs, bulldogs, pekingese, etc. They need IV anesthesia and intubation. Please contact a full service veterinarian.
  • Cause for Paws places black tattoo ink on all animals (excluding male cats), near the incision line. The tattoo is required, and will be done on all animals altered at our clinic.
  • Cause for Paws does not do any pre-operative bloodwork to check internal organ function. It is recommended that all animals over the age of 5 have a blood panel done prior to surgery.
  • Cause for Paws staff reserve the right to refuse any animal not healthy enough for surgery. Please let us know if your pet has had a recent illness (vomiting, diarrhea, fever, lethargy, recent surgery, etc.), and all medications your pet is currently taking.
  • Cause for Paws recommends that all shots, including bordatella for dogs, be given at least 10 days prior to surgery. Several illnesses are airborne and if your animal is not current on vaccinations they may be at risk while in our clinic. Cause for Paws is not responsible for any illness your pet may contract while in the clinic.
  • All animals will receive a 24-hour pain injection at the time of surgery. Dogs will go home with a five day supply of pain medication (included in the surgery charge). Due to a change in availability of pain medication for cats, it is available for an additional charge of $10.
  • All dogs will leave the clinic wearing an e-collar. Your pet MUST wear this e-collar for the full ten days. If you remove the e-collar early, Cause for Paws is not responsible for any damage done by the animal to the incision site.

CAUSE FOR PAWS

Cause for Paws is not a replacement for your full service veterinarian. We do not examine, diagnose, or treat illness or injury. Cause for Paws recommends that your animal be seen by a full service veterinarian for annual check-ups and to diagnose any underlying illness. We reserve the right to refuse services to any pets that are not healthy enough for surgery, vaccinations or medication. Cause for Paws is not responsible for injury after surgery. Aftercare procedures must be followed correctly.
